Description of the surgical procedure
Consultation
An initial consultation is a very important part of the surgery. The client tells the surgeon the reasons why they decided to undergo the procedure, and the surgeon explains what the client can expect from the surgery, what results are realistic, and advises them on the most suitable procedure for them. During the consultation, the doctor answers all the client’s questions.
Before the procedure
Before each surgery, it is necessary to assess the overall health of each client. For local anesthesia or analgosedation, you may have your blood samples taken in a laboratory or by a general practitioner or internist.
The procedure
Lipofilling is performed under local anesthesia and takes approximately 1 hour to complete, depending on the extent of the procedure. Fat is removed from areas with the largest fat deposits in a gentle manner, usually from the abdomen, thighs, or hips. The obtained fat is then processed and injected into the desired area.
After the procedure
Immediately after the lipofilling procedure, swelling appears in the facial area, so it is advisable to cool the area with ice. The area where fat was taken is covered with a plaster, which must be left dry for a week, after which the area can be washed.
Normal office work can be done the next day, but swelling should be expected. Sports can be resumed after two weeks. The check-up is one month after the procedure.
Durability of results of lipofilling
To achieve the best possible results, it is advisable to repeat the procedure after approximately 6-12 months, as some of the fat is always absorbed after a certain period of time.
Risks
No surgery is completely risk-free. However, these risks are minimized by a skilled and experienced surgeon, adherence to preoperative instructions, and conscientious postoperative care. The client is informed of the most common risks before surgery.
Frequently asked questions and answers
Yes, in rare cases, fat transferred during lipofilling may behave differently than expected, but if the procedure is performed correctly, the risk of displacement or hardening is very low. During the procedure, the transferred fat is carefully applied in tiny amounts to deeper layers of tissue, which helps the fat to settle evenly.
Once the fat has “settled in” (during the first few weeks to months), it becomes firmly integrated into the surrounding tissues and no longer moves.
Movement can only occur in the event of complications such as poor healing, infection, or improper performance of the procedure
After lipofilling, scars are usually tiny and inconspicuous. The fat is injected through small punctures with a needle or cannula, which are only a few millimetres in diameter. These punctures heal quickly and often with almost no visible scars.
After application, some of the transferred fat takes hold – which means that the new fat cells integrate with the surrounding tissue by developing a new blood supply. Usually, approximately 60-80 % of the transferred fat is integrated. The rest may be absorbed and eliminated by the body during the first few weeks. Once the fat has “settled in,” the resulting volume is long-lasting, often permanent.
